With
winter comes the inevitable cold and flu season. Everywhere you go you
see someone coughing, sneezing or blowing their noses in misery. So
far this year our winter has been mild with less snow than usual. Our household has been lucky enough to have escaped both colds and
the flu for now. I'm sure one of us will get sick sooner or later, we always
do. Debrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15673012478479765055noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3467958189038530126.post-83855860920985439452011-11-18T10:24:00.024-05:002012-01-09T12:01:24.852-05:00Cupcake Love!
Once again I have been MIA for a while, life does get in the way. Having dial up at home isn't very blog friendly either. Today while waiting at hubby's office, I figure I will update the old blog with my latest new found addiction! Cupcakes! Not very figure flattering I must admit and I certainly shouldn't be making them for my diabetic hubby. I guess I really Debrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15673012478479765055noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3467958189038530126.post-59566890323379342762010-06-28T23:18:00.009-04:002011-11-21T15:13:12.482-05:00Homemade Vanilla Extract Tutorial
One of my favourite smells in the whole world has to be vanilla! If you like to bake like I do, then I'm sure you've noticed the price of those tiny bottles of the "pure" vanilla extract. Ok, you can buy the cheap "artificial" stuff but did you know that the cheap stuff gets its flavouring from a wood by product? Ewwwwwwww!
I didn't start off looking to make vanilla Debrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15673012478479765055noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3467958189038530126.post-82766163807841939892010-06-16T15:57:00.005-04:002011-11-21T15:15:52.352-05:00A Blank Canvas
An uncut piece of fabric is a wonderful thing to someone that likes to sew. It's a blank canvas and the potential is endless. What will it be this time? A new tote bag? Oven mitts? An apron? Not this time. Sometimes I buy a piece of fabric because I like the colours or pattern used. Sometimes I just want to experiment. This Debrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15673012478479765055noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3467958189038530126.post-37445511905611748682010-06-11T05:00:00.005-04:002011-11-21T15:20:47.728-05:00The Perfect PieOk, I'll admit it...I have a very large sweet tooth! I try to limit the sugar, but sometimes I just can't help myself.
Enter the perfect pie! Making a good pie can be a challenge. I figured there had to be some secret that I just didn't know about. Determined to figure it out, I went straight to my favourite recipe site allrecipes.com to find out what the secret Debrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15673012478479765055noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3467958189038530126.post-23793606302409688222010-05-23T19:30:00.021-04:002012-07-26T14:48:46.447-04:00Homemade Yogurt Tutorial
I love yogurt! I mean, I really love yogurt!! I love yogurt with toast for breakfast. I love it topped with fresh fruit for a snack. I love adding frozen fruit and whirling it in the blender for a nice thick smoothie. Did I mention that I loved yogurt?
I've eyed up those yogurt makers that you can buy, secretly wanting to get myself one. Imagine my Debrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15673012478479765055noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3467958189038530126.post-48596575556581054092010-05-22T12:24:00.004-04:002011-11-21T15:29:21.968-05:00Nice To See You!It's been awhile since I've checked in and I've been busy. Not one post all winter! Shame on me. I love to see what everyone else is up to on their blogs, but mine gets forgotten. I have been busy though and I've done a little sewing, a little cooking among other things and thought today would be as good as any to post some updates.
My garden is all nicely tilled up and Debrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15673012478479765055noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3467958189038530126.post-91707599235152405492009-08-15T22:07:00.020-04:002011-11-21T15:32:49.811-05:00Gardener's Delight!
We've tilled the earth, picked the stones and pulled the weeds. We've planted the seeds and watered and fed the delicate seedlings, lovingly tending to their needs. Each day We've watched in anticipation as the seedlings grew and blossomed into strong healthy plants.
After much patience and a little luck (if the weather co-operates and the insects don't get too carried away), our efforts will Debrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15673012478479765055noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3467958189038530126.post-88843515194575049102009-07-25T21:29:00.004-04:002009-07-25T22:59:47.503-04:00Pink Tulle Skirt Well, I won the battle with the tulle but my attempt definitely has room for improvement. The tulle was a little annoying to work with. It would not gather with the sewing machine no matter how I adjusted the tension and stitch length. After sewing a line of stitches along the length of the tulle strips, I had to hand gather it before attaching them to the skirt. This took much longer than I Debrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15673012478479765055noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3467958189038530126.post-90482103641380701562009-07-24T23:32:00.009-04:002011-11-21T15:36:26.483-05:00Tulle Striped SkirtI love the idea of this little skirt with strips of tulle sewn on the outside to make it look all girly. There is another version of it here. The tulle gives it a fluffy look that's just perfect for play time in fairy tale land.
I've decided to try my luck at putting one together myself. I chose to use pastel pink cotton broadcloth for the base of the skirt with purplish pink tulle strips. Although I have made a couple of them now, I thought I would show you the first one I made. This one is actually a dress and bloomer set that I made for my niece. Other than the length, it is exactly the same as the tops. For those of you contemplating trying to do some shirring, rest assured it is much easier to do than you would think.Debrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15673012478479765055noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3467958189038530126.post-34997106898356653682009-07-15T23:57:00.009-04:002011-11-21T15:38:30.130-05:00Happy Birthday!Well, today is my birthday! I'm quite old now, but that's alright because I don't feel any different anyway. We had a nice day today. I did some more work on the back deck. A couple of days ago my son and I started dismantling the old one. I intend on removing it entirely and making a nice sitting area, but that's a discussion for another day.
My family surprized me with a lovely dinner out, Debrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15673012478479765055noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3467958189038530126.post-10481831550195837942009-07-10T14:55:00.013-04:002009-08-15T22:57:05.672-04:00When In Doubt, "Shout"!I'm not normally the type to advertize name brands, but today I take exception. Last night while preparing dinner, I splashed olive oil on my shirt. Leaving it until today I got out my handy, little bottle of Shout stain remover (the gel type in the small bottle with the rubber scrubby things on the end). I have to admit that this stuff is great! The only thing I've found that it doesn't remove Debrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15673012478479765055noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3467958189038530126.post-25494194730962310822009-07-09T17:54:00.004-04:002009-07-10T15:26:30.070-04:00Another Day Ends...Well, it's the end to another day and time to tuck it in and say goodnight. All in all it was not a bad day. I managed to sew up another shirred top and get two more ready for shirring tomorrow. I quite enjoy making these little cuties as they are easy to do. (I'll post a picture when I can find the camera). There are a couple good tutorials on how to do shirring and the ones I like best are:Debrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15673012478479765055noreply@blogger.com0
